“In the beginning I looked around and could not find quite the car I dreamed of ... so I decided to build it myself.” (Ferry Porsche)
Torsten Kreindl joined Grazia Equity as a partner in 2005. He combines more than ten years of successful international venture investment practice with a proven long-term track record of both building, running and supervising high-tech organizations from their earliest stages to multi-billion revenues and market caps.
Being a trained chemical and industrial engineer, Torsten focused on environmental technologies in the beginning of his career. He won both the Austrian “Science Price” and “Environmental Award” for his research in water analytics in the mid-80s and joined W.L. Gore & Associates, Inc. in 1989 where he successfully built a new clean-tech business unit and was instrumental in its aggressive international expansion.
When media and telecoms became digital in the early 1990s, Torsten was lured into this dynamic industry and has since then worked on most aspects of communications, multimedia and the Internet since. At Booz.Allen & Hamilton, Inc. he was a member of the German management team and led large consulting engagements for international IT, communications and media clients. In 1996 he became the CEO of the then world´s largest cable company, Deutsche Telekom AG´s broadband cable business, which he turned around within 3 years, grew to a customer base of more than 19 million homes and introduced one of Europe´s first digital TV offerings. After the business´ spin-off, he built MSG Media Services as its CEO which was acquired by private equity investors. From 1999 to 2005, Torsten was a founding partner in an international VC fund and made numerous investments mostly in Silicon Valley companies. During that time and for a few years more, Torsten was the Vice President of the European Cable Communications Association (today Cable Europe), a trade association that groups all leading broadband cable TV operators with more than 73 million customers and their national associations throughout Europe.
Torsten Kreindl has been a member of Swisscom AG´s board of directors since 2003, and is also the chairman of its finance committee. He is also a member of the board of directors of US-based Starboard Storage Systems and a supervisory board member of Pictet Digital Communications Fund in Geneva.
He studied Industrial Engineering/Technical Chemistry at Johannes Kepler University Linz in Austria, which he finished - in still record time - with both a summa cum laude Dipl.-Ing. (M.Sc.) and a Dr.techn. (Ph.D.).
Besides the rare but precious time with his family and friends, Torsten enjoys skiing, travelling, literature, wine and jazz music.
